Convention 2012: I am. . . .

. . . so grateful and thrilled and happy and. . . well, I was tired last night, but I’m feeling pretty refreshed tonight after a good’s night sleep and a dream day of rejuvenation!

Convention 2012 is over, and once again, I feel like it was a wonderful few days spent with amazing people.

Our convention theme this year—I am—is by far my favorite theme in recent memory. It was so far-reaching and offered so much possibility; you could make it personal as well as professional, and everybody could find it meaningful in some way. Our convention theme song was also wonderful. The lyrics and music were upbeat and fun. . . definitely not one I’ll get tired of!

I also loved our opener; if you didn’t see it, you can watch it here. What a fabulous way to involve so many of our home office employees, and most of our employees were at the opening session as well, something that has become a valued tradition for me.

I love the opportunity that our demonstrators and employees have to meet face to face, to feel of each other’s genuine love and enthusiasm, to see the people who make it happen, both at the home office and out in the real world. And that only happens at convention, during our home office tours and that opening session. That’s one of the reasons I love convention, because it’s a “touch and feel” opportunity to gather together as both demonstrators and employees and share what we love.

Our closing session, which included a half hour of live streaming, was extra scary. I have to admit that both Sara and I were back stage, hyperventilating a bit. Not sure why. . .  it’s not like we’re not live during a general session anyway. But somehow, having it streamed to thousands of additional demonstrators around the world made it seem much more overwhelming.

I am so excited about our 2014 Global Grand Vacation—what a thrill it will be to have demonstrators from around the world gathered together to celebrate their accomplishments all in the same place! Already looking forward to that!

Although I didn’t get to attend all the classes, the ones I did attend were amazing, and I heard great things about the others. As always, I heard demonstrators talk about returning home, eager to try new things and share new ideas. I heard more than one demonstrator mention that she’d originally come to convention just because it was fun, but somewhere along the way, whether it was in a class or watching someone march across the stage or whatever, she caught the vision of what her business could be, and she was excited to make it happen! (One demonstrator said she found one class so inspiring that she went to it twice!)

And while sales and growing a Stampin’ Up! business are certainly important, we always try to make our events meaningful on more than a business level. I think we accomplished that this year too, because I heard many demonstrators mention that they felt like their buckets were filled.

For example, Jason Dorsey, our awesome keynote speaker, talked about Gen Y. And while he was great from a business perspective, many demonstrators mentioned that their relationships with their children were changed after hearing his remarks—I love that we can offer an event that helps people not just with their businesses but with their personal lives as well.

The Awards Night was amazing, as always! Seeing everyone dressed up in fancy clothes and march across the stage, celebrating their accomplishments is simply indescribable—I LOVE it!

Another highlight for me was our Canadian march, especially watching those founding demonstrators march! That was very touching for me because I remember meeting a lot of those ladies as they took a chance on us 10 years ago! What a great decade it’s been!

Our Artisan Team dinner was fun too, the chance to meet with a small, creative group who will be shouldering a little bit more responsibility this year! It was fun to hear the things they’ll be involved in; I look forward to seeing their inspiring creations.

Not to mention the bag (it’s not every year I want a bag, but this year? Definitely!), the fun things in Memento Mall, the great Make & Takes, the Demonstrator Resource Center, and . . . .well, the list goes on and on.

It was a fabulous few days, and I am so grateful to have had the chance to share it with so many demonstrators and staff members. After the last session was over, the Gardner family gathered together for Sage’s birthday dinner and reflected on the whole experience—and it felt great! While we were definitely all exhausted, we were so overwhelmed with the privilege and honor of spending time with such wonderful people!

Thank you to all those who were part it!

Thanks Shelli for another wonderful convention! I know that you don't do it by yourself but it is because you and Vonna dreamed of having a stamp company that we could even experience this wonderful week of fun! I'm sure you never imagined 24 years ago that it would be this big! Thanks for bringing Stampin' Up! into my life and the life of thousands of others--It has truly been a blessing!

Shelli, Can't believe how quickly our past few days have passed so quickly. I want it to last forever but I know that is not possible. My favorite part had to be the theme song as well and also the key note speaker was just awesome. He made me understand that times are changing and with it we must change to keep up in our businesses and in our relationships with our children. He sure had us Baby Boomers pegged and kept me laughing so hard my belly was jiggy. I am looking forward to a bigger and even better convention next year.
Love you so much

Shelli, thank you so much for an amazing week! Attending my first convention was absolutely fabulous! I'm already looking forward to next year and hopfully bringing a down line or two. Our group sports a new green hat each year and it was wonderful to see our picture on your blog! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it... and the theme song just keeps playing over and over in my head. LOVE IT! Thanks again for a truly great experience!

Shelli, I loved Convention this year. It had been four years since I was at my last convention and what a year that was. My daughter had been diagnosed with cancer and it was a very emotional year. This year was a little less stressed as far as home life goes and I enjoyed it more. I LOVED the keynote speaker!! I understood where he was coming from on a lot of points as I have 3 - 20 year olds and a 24 year old. It made me see where I need to take my business. I have one question. On the last day Sarah shared a project with Seasoned Salt and the recipe from your family, I missed it because I didn't have my camera with me. I would so appreicate getting the recipe so that I can make this in jars for my family at Thanksgiving time. I enjoy sharing a hand stamped project with them every year. Once again, thanks so much for making Convention such a joy to attend!!!

Thanks for the great convention, Shelli! It was truly inspiring and just what I needed. I was fortunate enough to attend with one of my recruits who was a "first timer" - she is already planning to attend next year! Many thanks to your staff who put in long hours for the event :)

WOW! First time at convention -- it was truly inspirational. I am so motivated to "up" my game. Met some fantastic people and made some new friends. Next year's convention is already on my calendar. :)

Looks amazing! How fun that the twins made an appearance on stage! Do all of your family members participate? What does an Artisan member do?

Thank you from one of the many demonstrators that didn't get to come Convention, but certainly got a taste of it thru live streaming! I so much enjoy reading what other demonstrators say about convention, but to be "right there" via the live streaming was such a privilege and a blessing! Thank you sooooo much! I am making it my goal to come to convention next year and meet you in person, Shelli! God bless you!

Shelli, it was my first convention and I will never forget it. I still tear up when I watch the opening video. I am so proud to be a demonstrator for a company that treasures their employees. It was an honor to meet you and for you to accept the bird necklace. I love birds and knew you did also. Jason's speech was so funny and inspiring and helped me today when I met with three lovely young women to schedule a party. All details to be done by TXT... They loved it! Thanks again for one of the most enjoyable weeks... Cannot wait till Regionals in Chattanooga!

Thank you, Shelli, for a fantastic convention. I haven't been for two years and I had found the previous two conventions I attended exciting and inspiring. This year - I was totally impressed - the line ups were continually moving, the presenters were wonderful and the topics informative. Your organization continually finds ways to tweak things to improve what seems perfect already. I enjoyed the multitude of presenters; Jason Dorsey was over the top fantastic and I enjoyed how some sessions had two or three other presenters so you got to hear ideas from a variety of demonstrators - I couldn't help but come away with something to suit "My Way". I'm hoping to play the "I am" video every time I sit down to do my business - I am so inspired and ready to build my business....and earn that fabulous cruise. Thanks again for all the work you do to inspire us. I love working for this company!!!

Shelli - Thank you SO much for another fabulous Convention! I couldn't agree more with your comment about the 'I am...' theme. Personally, I am ... grateful for all that Stampin' Up! has given to so many of us. (please don't cry ;) Big hugs! -- Meg

There are not enough words to express how truly fabulous this year's convention experience was to me. There was so much to take in, I will probably be going over things in my mind and trying new things for months. Being associated with SU is truly a blessing--working with a company that is forward-thinking, fun, inspiring, supportive....okay, I don't want to bore you with my adjectives, but truly this was AMAZING! SU really hit this one out of the ballpark. Every convention I have attended has been wonderful, but this one was spectacular.

Shelli,

Convention was fabulous! But I loved the opening by the Stampin' Up Staff most of all I saw at convention. I appreciate all the professional talent you have provided us with in the past for opening session. But having the SU staff make a video and be on stage was just the best. I hope you consider making this a tradition. That opening along with the staff greeting us the first day made me feel welcome and happy to be a part of Stampin' Up! Thanks also for posting it on Stampin' Connection so we can share it with our Stampin' Friends!
