A Carnival Party

I invited Sara to guest blog about Sidney's and Tanner's birthday party. Here's what she has to say:

Sidney turned 14 this week, which is kind of a big deal at our house—it’s that “magic” age when you start associating with members of the opposite sex. Not dating yet, but hanging out, going to parties, spending time together in groups. . . stuff like that.

Sean and I wanted to facilitate that a little, create a fun atmosphere so we could get to know Sidney’s friends better and help them feel welcome in our home. What better way to do that than have a party, right?

And because I wanted to share the love (and the workload), I roped Megan into making it a dual-party because Tanner turned 15 just a few days earlier.

It was a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun! We had a carnival theme, complete with decorations, cotton candy, soft-serve ice cream, hot dogs. .. the whole works!

We planned games, had a red-and-white striped photo op, and really tried to make it special. I think we had more than 40 kids show up (the yard was full of teenagers!), and I’m pretty sure it’s a party that Sidney and Tanner will remember for a long time. So I guess that makes it worth every minute!

Sidney is growing up so fast—I’m not quite ready for it, but I guess I don’t have a choice. It’s going to happen whether I like it or not, so I might as well celebrate it! Happy birthday, Sid!

So fun that must have been though "work" was involved and I'm sure Sidney & Tanner will remember your efforts. You Gardner Girls continue to amaze me at how you juggle and balance so well. I can relate to the "not quite ready for it" as my firstborn son will be 14 in a couple of months.
