The Best Birthday Present of All

Wrapping up a birthday that was one of my most memorable, given the events of past few weeks. It’s been a happy day with lots of texts, phone calls, and visits from family and dear friends, wishing me a happy birthday. Each time I received one, it made me smile.

Plus Sterling announced this morning that we were going out tonight for a family dinner, and going out is a treat these days as well. . . although it takes a little work and effort, it’s well worth it!

And we ended the day with most of the family (minus the twins and the Douglass family, who are out of town) at the Harvest Restaurant, one of my favorite places to eat. It’s peaceful and quiet. . . well as quiet as it can be with 19 Gardners gathered together to celebrate.

And while all that was wonderful, the best birthday present of all came this afternoon when my PT (physical therapist) announced that I could start putting weight on my right leg. That means I can start learning to walk again with my walker. HUGE. . . so excited!

And now I’m going to fall into bed. . . it’s been a fabulous, full day!

I have been faithfully following your progress and I am THRILLED to hear that you are doing so well. Being able to begin weight-bearing work is a HUGE step (not that self-induced toilet use isn't! LOL). I'm not at all surprised that you've progressed so well after this serious injury. You had spent lots of time taking care of yourself physically (yoga, riding ,etc.) over the years and it's certainly paid off in your recovery process. You're strong both physically and mentally. I admire your strength and perseverance so much, as I know many others do. Thank you for sharing such a personal journey. I will continue to keep you in my prayers and I'm once again reminded, through reading your updates, that we serve a huge God who loves us and always provides for us. Take this time to rest, please. It won't be long now before you're back at the helm, doing what you love.
Much love!

Happy Birthday, Shelli!
And HUGE congratulations on being able to start learning to walk again. I'm very pleased and excited for you, and I know you'll rise to this new challenge as well as you have to all the others. You have two enormously valuable resources in your faith and your family, and they've both certainly played a really big role in your recovery so far. I know you know, but you are very blessed. And if you add the prayers of your many friends and supporters (including me), that's "a three-stranded cord that cannot be broken".
God bless you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHELLI! So glad to hear your recovery is going well!

Happy, Happy Birthday! I'm sure that a good time was had by all. So good to see those smiling eyes of yours, and it seems, you have about 26 or so reasons to flash that big smile! It does my heart good to see the family share such closeness. Sadly, it looks like it has become a lost art these days. I can appreciate the effort it must take to accomplish such a feat. And it looks like Kona has the perfect place to put his straw! Take gentle care...

Hi Shelli. I'm so glad to hear you're getting out and about and, especially, about getting to the point where you can do weight bearing exercises. I recently "Graduated" from PT myself after shoulder surgery and know what a big deal that is. Keep your positive outlook and keep on doing those exercises. I know they're painful but the payoff of PT is SO worth it once your range of motion and strength come back. Also, don't worry about your mild TMI moment. I recently posted how excited I was to be able to wear a bra. :>)

Keeping you in prayers on your Recovery Road.
