I Did It!

I’ve been keeping a little secret, and I’m ready to share—I’m starting to go on rides with Sterling. Many of you know that he’s gone on rides for years without me. I often travel with him, but I stay back at camp while he does the endurance rides. Those rides take time and training, and I just haven’t been in a place where I felt like I had that kind of time.

However, I’ve been watching him commit to yoga. . . going regularly with me because he knows how much I love it. . . and I decided it was my turn. He laughed when I told him I wanted to start training, but we went on our first ride this morning, and I have a goal to go on a 25-miler with him in June. (Keep your fingers crossed. . . )

It was fun! We started out slow and short, but since I love speed, I’m sure we’ll work our way up to faster and longer pretty quickly. The weather was perfect, the scenery was delightful, and the company. . . .well, all I can say is that any time spent with my sweetheart is a wonderful time!

I’ll keep you posted. . .

This is wonderful! My husband started riding with me a couple years ago and I have never had so much fun horsebackriding and I have been riding for almost 45 years. We are planning on a couple overnight rides this summer. We are going to a Buck Brannaman clinic the end of April, the weekend after I get back from the SLC regional in Riverton. Phil will be riding in the clinic and in June we are invited to Bucks ranch in Sheridan, Wy, can't wait for that trip. We trail ride, but certainly not 25 miles, of course we ride American Quarter horses and mine are not bred for endurance. Would love more pictures of you and Sterling riding, thanks for sharing!

Way to go! It's fun to step out of the box but it is even more fun and rewarding when the 2 of you can do this together! In my opinion, there is nothing more rewarding, relaxing and satisfying than to be able to ride a horse and have that bond and trust together! It truly is teamwork...again, way to go and keep on riding!

Great news Shelli! I'm a former competitive equestrian in timed events and miss it so much. Endurance riding is on my bucket list. Congrats on taking the plunge! You'll have a great time.

LOL - We're all having the same reaction! You Go Girl!! I'm sure Sterling is thrilled and recognizes your effort just as you've recognized his effort to go to yoga. Maintaining a happy marriage over the long term still takes as much care and feeding as it did in the first years, but when you've been together this long you're really clear that the effort is definitely worth it. Happy Trails to you both!

Way to go Shelli. We have horses and I haven't ridden in years since my husband and son starting riding reining horses. Alittle to much speed for me, well I am now taking lessons to learn this discipline so I can ride again with my husband. I am so out of shape right now though so it's good you are in shape from your yoga. I have a long ways to go to get my endurance up. It's alot of fun though. Looking forward to seeing you at Convention.

Wow Shelli I have to say you are looking more and more youthful everytime i see a pic of you. Now i see another reason for that youthfulness endurance riding. I did endurance riding for many years in australia and loved every minute of it, the bonding with my horses, the scenic trails/ nature and most of all chatting to fellow endurance riders. Well done with this sport, the motto here in Aus is " to complete is to win". You have many great passions.
