I'll Be Darned. . .

Some days the sun does come up in the East!

I hadn’t planned on blogging for a few days so I’d have plenty to report on, but today was a good day and I just wanted to share it.

There’s not much to say other than Shelli went through all four of her different physical therapy sessions, and she was AWESOME! She was tired but not exhausted, hurting but not excruciating. She made significant improvements—yesterday she walked 12 feet in 50 minutes, today she walked 24 feet in about 30 minutes. She was hustling!

At the end of the day, they told Shelli to take a 30-minute break in her wheelchair. I asked if we could play hookey, and after getting permission (which kind of meant we weren’t playing hookey, I guess), Sage and I took Shelli downstairs. We took a tour of the hospital’s cafeteria and went out on the patio, where Shelli had her first breath of fresh air in a week. Fantastic!

When we took Shelli back upstairs, she was definitely done for the day, but it had been a good day!

The rehab staff is great. The first day was kind of tough, but we’ve meshed with them well since! They are kind and encouraging, and seem to enjoy stopping by Shelli’s room to visit. It might be because we have a diffuser going and are using essential oils—the room smells great!

A young CNA dropped in this afternoon, and we chatted about his tours in the Middle East (two in Iraq, one in Afghanistan), his family, and his plans to become a pediatrician. Everyone’s been friendly. . .

And for those who have asked about Kadie, she’s doing great. She’s healing nicely, is receiving some treatment (massage therapy, of course!), and should recover completely as well.

Yep, the sun definitely rose in the East today. I’m sure there are plenty hard days still ahead, but it’s nice to have a good one to share. Your prayers are being felt, things are happening, days like this we can do. . .

It looks as if Shelli is improving really well even though it has to be very painful. I know she enjoyed being outside for a little while. I know Kadie was grateful for her massage! I'm sure she needed it after her tumble. It is wonderful that you will do that for her. I love my horses and they are part of my family. I know yours are too. Thank you for posting updates.

Shelli and family, Keep on keeping on!!! May the Lord bless you with the strength to endure the pain and the ability to work through and past it! I believe the Lord will not give you more then you can handle- you all are just so great and able to handle so much! May you be blessed with the patience for the time it will take to heal as well. Love and well wishes for all of you!

I'm sure Shelli's dedication to her yoga, and the resulting great muscle tone/endurance are a great asset in her healing...('course all the family/friends support has to factor in there as well!) Sterling, Shelli and Family,

It's so great to hear about the progress that Shelli is making. This must be so difficult for all of you. I'm sure you are all so used to Shelli being the caregiver...now the roles are reversed for a little while. You all are an inspiration to so many people. I send you my thoughts and prayers daily for a speedy recovery. Keep smiling that beautiful smile Shelli! Sterling, you have a way with words...keep the updates coming...you are doing great! Michelle

There is three words to describe Shelli in my eyes and they are "Inspirational, Amazing, & Strong (in mind as well as body)". Met you both at Brisbane Convention for the first time and those words were applicable then and even more so after that "Moment in Time" Keep on Keeping on to all from across the ocean.

With Shelli's attitude & all the love and support of family & friends, it will not surprise me in the least when you report that her recovery is ahead of schedule and she's planning on giving Kadie some "Thank you!" massages herself!! Y'all are all in my thoughts and prayers! Thank you for the updates!

The perspective of each new day is an amazing gift that we are given...even when the road is rough! I am so grateful to hear and be able to add my prayers to so many others on behalf of Shelli & your family. Hooray for essential oils and the healing they help facilitate...it doesn't surprise me so many love to stop by and see Shelli & your family...your gratitude, appreciation, patience & tenacity are gifts that not every person brings with them into trials. My prayers will continue for you all.

Thanks Sterling (aka "the Hacker") for keeping us up to date. I was so shocked and worried when I heard the news. I was actually with downlines at a craft retreat creating fun stuff at the time. Sending good thoughts for Shelli's recovery and all my love to your wonderful family.

Shelli and Family, First, I am thankful that Shelli is on her way to getting better, I know it will be awhile before she will fully recover, but she is on her way. I am happy to see that Kadie is also getting the care she needs. As you mentioned in an earlier post, this could have been so much worse. I am also Thankful for the updates and pictures. I know Shelli is in pain and she still shows us that beautiful smile of hers. Much love and prayers...Marlene

Thank You so much for the updates on Shelli! I know how much you are dealing with right now and to take the time to keep us updated means so much to all of us! My husband was in a major car accident 7 years ago and was hospitalized for 5 months, so I know how hard it is for you to watch her go through all this and how much your life has change this past week. Don't forget to take time each day for yourself too. You, Shelli and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
